01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Just before the bowl arrives at the counter, a fragrant ribbon of steam rises as sizzling hot oil is poured directly over chopped green onions. The salt ramen at Chuka Soba Benten commands a devoted following, layering rich meat broth with dried sardines and other seafood dashi into a deeply rounded soup. Boiled thoroughly, the house-made straight medium-thick noodles offer a silky slurp alongside a chewy, resilient bite, holding their ground against the soup, a broad slice of chashu, and carefully seasoned menma bamboo shoots.
Generous Portions from 250 g and a Varied Menu
Generous noodle portions are a hallmark here, with regular (250 g uncooked) and medium (350 g) served for the same price. Beyond the salt ramen, the kitchen prepares a deeply savory soy-sauce chuka soba, hearty tsukemen with plentiful toppings in a rich dipping soup that can be thinned with hot broth at the end, and a salt abura soba tossed in tare and seasoned oil. Guests often order separate side plates of seasoned bamboo shoots, extra roast pork, or seasoned soft-boiled eggs, or sip a medium bottle of beer served with a small starter while waiting leisurely for their noodles.
Planning a Daytime Visit
The shop operates exclusively during the day from 11:00 to 14:30, closing on Sundays and Thursdays. Because queues frequently form outside for the 11-seat counter, arriving with time to spare is advisable. The ticket vending machine accepts cash only; diners buy their meal tickets following the posted guidance and settle in for an undisturbed, focused bowl of noodles.
